Agreed. I will keep President Obama in my prayers. May God grant him the wisdom to do what is right with the "control" (if he gets it). If his attempts are not to be, the wisdom to lead us in the right path.

Even with the help of the Holy Spirit the early church could not pull it off.
Sorry, but I have to stand on my opinion as well. This is not about health care it. Is about control.

That's an interesting point you bring up. The question I have is why didn't it "work"?. If the early church founders were acting under the guidance of the freshly acquired Holy Ghost are we to assume they were misled?. I think not. I'm not sure how long the early church "last", but a quick review of the book of Acts brings to mind some reasons. Persecution, for one, had to play a very big role. Let's remember also the "infightings", or disagreements among the leaders. This just to say, if there was an "end" to the early church, we still see that it came from the outside. I stand in my opinion that we should try to MAKE Obama's plan work.

I was going to mention the early church. Notice that it did not last very long at all. Even though the resurrected Lord was still fresh in their minds, they could not make it work.

"But the Soviet Union proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that socialism will not work in this world".
I think it's more accurate to say they only proved socialism will not work the way they went about it.
Remember in the book of Acts how it says christianity had it's beginning. How they would gladly share so no one lacked anything (or words to that effect).
If we could harness that spirit in America today, what great things could be accomplished.
Must we wait for a "perfect world"?, or, try to do what Jesus asked of us?;( love our neighbor and all that).
I believe what happened in Acts WAS a kind of communism. The kind we should strive for.

In an ideal world where there was no evil - no self-seeking, and people truly lived godly lives, it would work. But the Soviet Union proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that socialism will not work in this world. I don't know how old you are, but if you remember the poor people had to stand in line for hours for things as simple as toilet paper - if they could find it at all.
And universal healthcare would be great in a perfect world, as well... but it does not work in practice. No economy can support decent care for everyone. I have a friend in England who substantiated an email I got that said that if you are over age 59 in England, you can forget major surgeries. A mutual frind of ours had a major bypass surgery. She told me that if he had lived in England, he would have been dead years ago (This was not his first "stint") There is a provision in this bill to put senior citizens out to pasture.

Besides, this "health care" bill was never about health or care. Read the link in my previous comment.

"Obama never made any secret of his plans to socialize the United States during the campaign."
You make it sound like it's a bad thing.
You'd probably have been like the people who walked on the other side of the road so as not to help the beat up traveler lying on the road after getting mugged.
Universal care would be good. Let's try and make it work.

My suspicion is confirmed... A professor of Constitutional Law wrote the following.

In fact, I have concluded that this legislation really has no intention of providing affordable health care choices. Instead it is a convenient cover for the most massive transfer of power to the Executive Branch of government which has ever occurred, or even been contemplated.
