Does Jesus Teach Tolerance?

In a word, “no”.
He tolerates things that appalled the “religious” of the times. But notice, for instance, Zacchaeus who immediately offered to pay restitution; and clean up his act, repentance was implied (why pay people back then start ripping them off again?) Or the woman caught in adultery, He instructed her not to sin anymore.
Jesus accepts sinners, but he expects us to turn from our sins.
His first ministry, after the temptation, but before he called the disciples was walking through the countryside proclaiming “repent!” (Matthew 4:14)
On the other hand, Jesus did not tell people to go out and kill infidels. But would that be considered “tolerance”?

“For the Bible Tells Me So” is a documentary that attempts, among other things, to prove that the Bible says it is ok to be gay. Is that the case? Is homosexuality divinely ordained? Read on….

At 20:20, Reverend Steven Kingle, “If you read the Bible at a face value level, it leaves out some very important things. The first one is just a few verses before that; that Moses teaches it is an abomination to eat shrimp… it is an abomination to eat a rabbit.

Call it what you want. It was not a capitol offense to eat a rabbit. However, they even mentioned in the movie that homosexuality and certain other sexual abominations were capitol crimes.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu… “The Bible was written in the idiom of the time… We don’t take it as literally so…”

Et Tú Tutu? Bible scholars have poured their hearts into accurately translating the Bible. They know that their very souls are on the line… This was especially in the forefront of people’s minds the 1600s. Any Bible student knows that it has been remarkably well preserved, and the King James and most modern translations, such as the NIV are meticulously translated. There is no mystery about Biblical idioms if you study. Secondly… There is nothing idiomatic about the statement that someone should be put to death! It is obvious, either Tutu doesn’t know what an idiom is (I find this unlikely) or he is deceived.

At 21:36, Reverend Dr. Laurence C. Keene: When the word “abomination” is used in the Bible it is always used to address a ritual wrong. It never is used to refer to something innately immoral… Eating pork was never “innately” wrong… (The word “always” was emphasized in his speech. It was not added by me.)

This guy is truly scary. He does not know Hebrew and is misleading his followers – and anybody else watching this video: I cannot trust another word he says.


Strong’s H8441 – tow`ebah: a disgusting thing, abomination, abominable

  1. in ritual sense (of unclean food, idols, mixed marriages)
  2. in ethical sense (of wickedness etc.)

At 22:12 Reverend Susan Sparks That particular section about a man not lying with a man was about procreation…

  1. Where did she come up with that? Where is her evidence?
  2. God did not say “why”. Does knowing the reason why not to kill make murder any less of an offense? God rarely explains Himself – He said not to. God also talked about not having sex with close family members and animals. He did not explain why.
    How ridiculous does this sound? “Oh, well. I’m not in the mood to procreate, the planet is overpopulated, anyhow. So I’ll just have sex with that animal over there – or maybe my sister…”

At 21:36, Reverend Dr. Laurence C. Keene: Onan spilled his seed on the ground. It was an abomination.

Commentators are virtually unanimous: God struck Onan down not for the act of coitus interruptus. Onan spilled his seed on the ground to keep from getting Tamar pregnant because any child born to her would have belonged to his late brother…

At 23:12 They show a clip from an episode of TV’s West Wing where actor Martin Sheen proposes a scenario: When someone works on the Sabbath – who should put him to death?

The Sabbath being a capital offense was superceded by Jesus when He said that the Sabbath was made for the man, not man for the Sabbath. (Mark 2:27) However, homosexuality was condemned in both the Old and New Testaments. Homosexuals (and many others) will not be admitted into the Kingdom of Heaven. (See 1 Corinthians 6:9-10)

It would appear some people have stopped reading here… 

Don’t you know that those who do wrong will have no share in the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, who are idol worshipers, adulterers, male prostitutes, homosexuals, thieves, greedy people, drunkards, abusers, and swindlers–none of these will have a share in the Kingdom of God. (1 Corinthians 6:9-10 NLT)

But Paul continues in the very next verse

some of you were just like that, but now your sins have been washed away… (1 Corinthians 6:11 NLT)

God loves people. God is Love… He hates the fact that we sin, but anybody who thinks that they are sinless has some self-examination to do. He loved you before you believed, why not homosexuals?

Don’t get me wrong. I am not saying you can continue to practice such things with impunity. God is not mocked (Galatians 6:7). But he will help the homosexuals overcome their sins just the same as He will any other sinner.

Case closed.

I would like to take this opportunity to share my personal witness testimony that freedom from homosexuality is possible. How do I know this? I am married to a man who I consider to be God’s own personal miracle to not only let us know that freedom from homosexuality possible, but it is also a reality.

God can and does change anyone that wants to change.

I know what you are thinking? How is that possible? Are people born that way?

I was also once among the numbered that believe that once gay always gay. As a matter of fact, I think God has a sense of humor concerning me and this whole issue.

Years ago while serving in the army and before I gave my life to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, I had a conversation with myself while watching an interview with a well known sitcom star who had married a ex-homosexual. Remember, at that time I did not know that such a person existed and if they did I certainly would never even entertain the thought.

You may not remember this lady, but she played the role of Rose on “227” and her husband in real life was the man that starred as the monster in the movie “Predator”. She was sharing how he had left the homosexual life style and was also sharing that after leaving the lifestyle, they discovered he had the AIDS virus. He has since passed.

“She must be crazy to marry someone like that!”, was my outburst of this revelation. “I don’t care if he did say he was no longer gay! I would never marry someone like that!”

Those were my exact words! God must have been laughing and saying, “If she only knew.”

Everything this lady said challenged my entire belief system about what I thought was possible. Coupled with the fact that I was living a sinful life at the time myself and my lack of education in that area, I was totally blind to what was possible to those who put their total trust in God and his son Jesus Christ.

Fast forward almost 16 years later, I am married to the most wonderful man that ever lived. He is a wonderful husband, a devoted father to our five beautifiul children, and my best friend.

He is a man that many have said simply can not exist because of his powerful testimony of freedom from homosexuality. One news woman, even remarked “I didn’t know there was such a creature.”

I am proud to be his wife, his lover and his friend. I count it an honor to stand beside him and to declare that there is freedom from homosexuality through the power and saving grace of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Just like any other sin (except blasphemy of the Holy Spirit) if you repent and get baptized, you may be forgiven. God’s grace is not a license to sin.

1 Corinthians 6:11 continues from the verse, above it. It says, There was a time when some of you were just like that, but now your sins have been washed away, and you have been set apart for God. You have been made right with God because of what the Lord Jesus Christ and the Spirit of our God have done for you.

Let me emphasize. Notice the word “repent”. God’s grace is not a license to sin. You must repent, or turn from your sin. If you think you can brazenly practice sexual immorality, you are going to be sadly mistaken. This is not hate, it is a statement of fact.

Don’t worry if you want to be free but don’t see a way out. God can and does free people from such things all the time.

Misconception 1: The Bible is silent on homosexuality

The bible is by no means silent on the subject of homosexuality. It can be easy to think that because back in 1611 when the King James Version was authorized, the term Homosexuality had not been coined yet. According to Webster’s Dictionary, there was no such word until nearly 300 years later in 1892. The term “sodomites” was used for homosexuality at least once in the KJV in 1 Timothy (See Below)

So, what does the Bible say about homosexuality?

In the Old Testament, homosexuality was capital offense.

In the New Testament, the Greeks have two words for homosexuality. One for the active partner and one for the passive: mä-lä-ko’s and är-se-no-koi’-tas both acts are forbidden.

Women are not excluded. Lesbianism in the bible is just as bad. (See Romans 1:26, below)

Even cross-dressing is an abomination: A woman shall not wear anything that pertains to a man, nor shall a man put on a woman’s garment, for all who do so are an abomination to the LORD your God.  (Deuteronomy 22:5 NKJV)

Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t you know that those who do wrong will have no share in the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, who are idol worshipers, adulterers, male prostitutes, homosexuals, thieves, greedy people, drunkards, abusers, and swindlers–none of these will have a share in the Kingdom of God.
1 Tim 1:10 for fornicators, for sodomites, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine, These laws are for people who are sexually immoral, for homosexuals and slave traders, for liars and oath breakers, and for those who do anything else that contradicts the right teaching
Rom 1:26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires. Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other.
